AC Milan striker, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, could be banned for up to three years, because of his partnership with a Malta-based betting company, Aftonbladet reports.

It is being claimed that Ibrahimovic, through his company Unknown AB, owns 10 per cent of the shares of Bethard, a gambling website with offices registered in Malta.

The Swedish Football Association have reportedly been aware of the problem for three years and it is the reason the player was not called up for the 2018 World Cup, although he retired from international football in 2016 before returning last month.

His involvement with the betting company, could however land him with a three-year ban or a hefty fine, with both FIFA and UEFA closely watching.

FIFA and UEFA do not allow players participating in their competitions to have financial interests in gambling companies.

Ibrahimovic’s company is believed to the fourth largest owner in Bethard, which according to the latest available annual report in 2019 made a profit after tax of £25.79m.
